A powerful quake in the South Pacific hurled massive tsunami waves at the shores of Samoa and American Samoa, flattening villages and sweeping cars and people back out to sea while leaving many dead and dozens missing.
An earthquake with magnitude of 8.0 struck 6:48AM (local time), Tuesday, September 29, 2009. Residents fled to higher grounds but after few minutes, they were engulfed by four Tsunami waves of 4 to 6 meters high that runs to 1.5 kilometers from the shore.
