The state-of-the-art passport, ePassport, has been launched during the 111th founding celebration of the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) of the Philippines. The first Filipino to have the ePassport is no other than President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo with the serial number EA0000001.
The security features of the ePassport includes a hidden encoded image, holographic lamination, and the tamper-proof IC chip that stores the personal data of the holder and his digital photo.
The ePassport can be read using the chip reader which is already used by authorities controlling the borders. And it is also noted that there are more than 60 countries using the ePassport already.
